Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Gran Reserva is a standout age-statement single malt from Glenfiddich, the Speyside distillery founded by William Grant in 1887 and still family-owned today. What sets this expression apart is its finishing process: after patient maturation in traditional American and European oak, the whisky is moved into casks that previously held Caribbean rum for a secondary finish, layering tropical richness onto a classic Speyside core.
The nose is immediately distinctive—banana bread, ripe fig, toffee, toasted oak, and a wave of dried tropical fruit from the rum finish. On the palate it's luxurious and full: vanilla, brown sugar, stewed pineapple, soft leather, and gingerbread, all held together by twenty-one years of careful oak maturation. The finish is long, warming, and elegantly spiced, with returning fruit and a gentle vanilla fade.
Serve Gran Reserva neat in a copita or Glencairn—water isn't needed, but a single drop will coax out deeper fruit. It's an exceptional after-dinner pour and an obvious gift choice for Scotch drinkers upgrading from the 12 or 15 Year.
