In 1864 he became \u003ci\u003eécuyer \u003c\/i\u003e\u003ci\u003een chef\u003c\/i\u003e of the Ecole de Cavalerie. In 1875 he returned to Saumur as commandant of the Ecole de Cavalerie there. He was considered by all to be \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan face=\"times new roman, serif\" size=\"4\"\u003ethe most outstanding \u003ci\u003eécuyer\u003c\/i\u003e of the period. It was on his personal horses that L’Hotte practiced the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan face=\"times new roman, serif\" size=\"4\"\u003eteachings of Baucher. But as \u003ci\u003eécuyer\u003c\/i\u003e \u003ci\u003een chef \u003c\/i\u003eand commandant at Saumur, he was obliged to follow the teachings and rules of a military establishment. In this respect he was more in the d’ Auriste idiom, practicing primarily \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan face=\"times new roman, serif\" size=\"4\"\u003eexterior and military equitation.
