They are also the most unstable because they have the most “give.” Not only does the Soft Pad yield to the weight of the horse quickly, it also gives laterally (side-to-side), allowing the horse to sink into the Pad rapidly. This is unlike the Hard Pad which “gives” very slowly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUsing the Soft Pad is like presenting the horse with a pair of bedroom slippers -- comfort is acknowledged immediately. However, they are not a good choice for nervous, panicky, or anxious horses who need something more secure and ground-like to start out with, such as the Hard Pad or Physiopad.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn general, horses should be comfortable with Hard or Firm Pads before progressing to Soft Pads. On the other hand, if your horse appears to be in discomfort from sore hooves or joints -- or is walking with apparent pain (not from soft tissue injury) -- then you may want to quickly progress to Soft.
